Changing Seasons...

I guess it's that time of year.  I am noticing little changes around the Burrow.  The squirrel have started hiding nuts.  I witnessed one burying his secret treasure just last week.  This morning I saw a deer outback.  Changed was her coat color.  She's staring to look very dark...gone is that warm golden brown.  She's ready to blend in with the woods as the leaves fall.

Phil, my groundhog, has grown his family.  I noted Phil and two others hanging out in our and my in-laws back yard.  This picture is of Phil checking me out as he was under my deck.  His burrow there we call his winter residence.  At the end of our yard is his Summer Cottage.  I know we should probably relocate him, but he's so cute!

This mushroom is under the pine trees on the side of my yard.  It's not in a spot that's easy to photograph and I had to use the flash.  Check out the pine needle pierced through the edge.  Pretty cool!

About a year ago we found a snake just like this guy in our basement.  We called him Snakey.  Click here for his story.  My son came up from watching TV two nights ago and said we had another visitor in the basement.  Ringneck Snakes are kind of rare.  How fun to find a second one.

Tiny snakes in the house I can handle!  Still this guy was released outside after the paparazzi got their photos.  :)

OK, you are a brave, brave woman. I'm not so fond of snakes, but I will look to you as my guide.

I love how you pay such close attention to the nature that is near your home!

Uh...snakes in the HOUSE?!! I don't think so!! Are these the harmless kind? I am "fighting" the wildlife over here...we have a pair of rat snakes, that maybe spawning....EEEEKKKK!!! And I have just figured out that the BAJILLION spiders that NEVER go away under my patio are BROWN WIDOWS!!! Supposedly not as aggressive as the BLACK WIDOW, but it still has the word WIDOW in its name....squish, squish, squish!!! :D
But on a happier note, I love watching the Humming Birds, and one actually LANDED on a flower for like a minute!!! SO TINY!

I want to like snakes, honest I do! I'm a nature freak. Damn it... I should love snakes... they are so vitally important. But I can't!!! They give me the Willys. I've convinced myself it's a Biblical thing... women are suppose to crush the heads of snakes. Okay... I'm not into head crushing, but I'm not a fan up close and personal either. Suffice to know they are OUT THERE, doing their job... not in my house. And this is coming from a woman, who just this summer, played host to 2 toads... one we washed in the washing machine and it miraculously survived, a snapping turtle... our border collie wanted a new pet and brought her in, and 3 sand hill cranes, okay, they stayed in the garage. Anyway, I'd keep the groundhog... but the snake... would definitely have to go!
